Pull up your bill history online through your utility’s customer portal, or look at the comparison the bill itself provides. Common legitimate explanations include: filling or refilling a pool (large one-time addition), adding a new irrigation zone, a new family member or extended guest stay, or a different number of days in the billing cycle. Step 2: Go to the water meter box at the street. Lift the lid (a flathead screwdriver or meter key fits the slot). On the meter face, find the sweep hand or the digital flow indicator.
